Helped by some winter-like weather in October, elk hunting on the Rocky Mountain Front has been steady.
Into the third week of the state’s five-week elk season, hunting district 424, southwest of the Sun River Wildlife Management Area, has reached its quota of 10 antlerless or brow-tined elk. The season is now for brow-tined bull only until Nov. 29.
A brow-tined bull is an elk having at least one antler with a visible point four inches or greater on the lower half of either main beam. The quota is counted at Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ check station in Augusta.
HD 442, west and north of the Sun River WMA, has a quota of 250 antlerless or brow-tined elk. Currently 70 elk have been taken from HD 442.
