LINCOLN, Neb. – A public meeting to discuss changes in statutes and regulations impacting landowner elk hunting in Nebraska will be held Aug. 27 in Rushville, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
"LB 105, passed by the Nebraska Legislature, provides new guidance for big game regulations in Nebraska to address increasing elk populations and elk hunting permit fairness issues, including enacting a preference point system for landowners applying for bull elk permits," said Todd Nordeen, district wildlife manager for the Alliance office.
Requirements and guidelines for landowners who wish to apply for landowner elk permits also will be discussed. Another change out of LB 105 will impact the number of acres a landowner owns or leases to qualify for landowner elk permits. Additional meetings will be held throughout the Panhandle later this year.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Security First Center, 110 E. 2nd St. Contact the Alliance office at (308) 763-2940 for more information.
