NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is requesting public comment regarding the 2009 proposed elk hunting recommendation. TWRA officials updated the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission on the project at the TWRC’s October meeting.

The TWRA will make its final recommendation on the proposed hunt at the 2009 January meeting of the TWRC. Please click on the following for the preliminary recommendation: http://www.state.tn.us/twra/pdfs/elkhunting.pdf

The preliminary recommendation calls for five bull elk tags, based on the current elk population. Four of the permits would be available to licensed Tennessee hunters through a quota permit drawing and one permit would be donated to a qualifying Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting TWRA’s elk program. All elk hunting would be restricted to the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area.

Please send your comments or questions to: daryl.ratajczak@state.tn.us.
