The early "green-field" hunts in six elk management zones - Palouse, Salmon, Lemhi, Beaverhead and Pioneer zones - are meant to help landowners reduce crop damage. Early archery and any-elk hunts also start August 1 in the Snake River elk zone.

Beginning July 27 the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will temporarily close part of Grizzly Island Wildlife Area for the annual tule elk hunt. The Grizzly Island Unit of the Grizzly Island wildlife area will be closed through Sept. 13, during which time only persons with authorized hunt elk tags will be allowed.

Frankfort, Ky. -Chris Godby of Somerset won a raffle for the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation?s bull elk tag at the Salato Wildlife Education Center Bourbon Sampler on June 13. Godby was one of 1,138 people who purchased tickets for the raffle.
